25th Annual Dental Clinic and Community Health Fair

Saturday, February 23, 2019 marked the 25th anniversary of the Magnolia School District Dental Clinic and Community Health Fair. Dr. Jonas Salk Elementary School MPR was transformed into a Dentist’s office and the courtyard was turned into a community health fair. Keys of Inspiration Piano Lab is Officially Open

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Juliette Low School of the Art’s Keys of Inspiration (KOI) piano lab was held on Tuesday, February 5. Many special guests were in attendance, including Lukas Barwinski-Brown, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation (LLIMF), who traveled from New York for the festivities. Also in attendance, from the Magnolia School District, were members of the Board of Trustees; Superintendent, Dr. Frank Donavan; and members of the Executive Cabinet.

Students Participate in Annual Spelling Bee

The 2019 Magnolia School District Spelling Bee was a memorable one! The rain may have delayed the Bee, but it certainly did not stop it. The two top spellers from each of our 9 schools participated in the very intense competition. Students successfully spelled words such as extravaganza, gregarious, capricious and cauliflower.

Students Attend Saturday School Session

On Saturday, December 8, almost 350 fourth through sixth grade students attended a four hour Saturday School session. Offered for the first time in Magnolia School District, this four hour session was designed to provide students with fun, engaging learning activities while making up some lost learning time from being absent.

Juliette Low School of the Arts Hosts Annual Harvest Carnival

On Friday, October 19, Juliette Low students, families and staff enjoyed the largest annual Harvest Carnival to date. The carnival featured a wide variety of game booths; a puppy petting zoo; cake walk; face painting; a cartoonist, who provided caricatures of participants; necklace engravers; and an obstacle course. Raffles took place throughout the afternoon for entertainment at a variety of venues, as well as items such as a foldable bicycle. Participants enjoyed feasting on taco dinners as well as the standard carnival foods, such as hotdogs, nachos, cotton candy, popcorn, and shaved ice.

Juliette Low Receives State of the Art Piano Lab

Juliette Low School of the Arts has had the privilege of being chosen to participate in the Lang Lang International Music Foundation Keys of Inspiration program.  The music foundation was started by world-famous concert piano player Lang Lang. Keys of Inspiration is a national music intervention program, focusing on helping schools with limited resources.  The Lang Lang International Music Foundation teamed with Roland, and The Royal Conservatory of Music to build a state of the art piano lab with 31 brand new keyboards at Juliette Low School of the Arts.

7th Annual Chess Tournament is Bigger than Ever

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018 Success Through Chess hosted the 7th annual Magnolia School District chess tournament at Baden-Powell School. The day was filled with concentration, focus, tears, cheers, as students played individually for the first part of the day, then team chess or “bughouse” with their classmates against other District students!

Magnolia Honors Employees of the Year

On May 17th, Board of Trustees recognized the Magnolia School District’s 2018 Employees of the Year. Mrs. Sherrie Todorovic was selected as the Certificated winner, Mr. Miguel Beltran was selected as the Classified winner, Mr. Richard Schwartz and Mrs. Annette Cleveland were selected as the Administration winners.
