Fired Up About the Ceramics Club at J-Low School of the Arts

As part of the Ceramics Club, fourth through sixth-grade students learn the elements and vocabulary of ceramics through hands-on experiences. Using slab rolling and pinch pot designs, they create two ceramic pieces of art beginning with a ball of clay and building it into a plate or bowl. Students learn how to mix primary colors of glaze and apply their desired glaze color to their work. Their work then proceeds through a bisque and glaze firing. After the final glaze firing, the students join together for one final session to artistically critique and celebrate their completed art projects.
